Privacy Policy

Grand Line Companion ("the extension") is a browser companion that shows animations, quote cards, and a small character overlay while you browse. This policy explains exactly what data the extension touches, in plain language.
The short version
The extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your personal data, browsing history, or page content. Everything it stores stays on your device (and, if you're signed into Chrome, synced privately through your own Google account) — it never reaches our servers, because we don't have any.
What the extension stores, and why
- Your settings — which features are enabled, your chosen intervals, hat animation speed, dark mode, reduced motion, sound, and character filter.
- Favorited quotes — the IDs of quotes you've starred, so they persist between sessions.
- Daily wisdom tracking — the date the daily card was last shown, so it only appears once per day.
All of this is stored using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API. It is not readable by any website, by us, or by anyone other than you signed into your own Chrome profile.
What the extension does not do
- It does not read, log, or transmit the content of pages you visit.
- It does not track your browsing history.
- It does not use cookies, analytics, or third-party trackers.
- It does not send any data to an external server — there is no backend.
- It does not load or execute remote code; everything that runs is packaged inside the extension itself.
Why the extension requests the permissions it does
- Storage — required to save and sync the settings and favorites listed above between your sessions and devices.
- Alarms — required to schedule the quote and companion timers efficiently in the background, instead of running a separate timer on every open tab.
- Host permission (all http/https pages) — required so the visual overlay (the animations and cards) can be displayed consistently on whichever page you happen to be browsing. The content script that runs on each page only builds and displays this overlay; it does not read or modify the page's own content or data.
Children's privacy
The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, regardless of age, because it does not collect information from anyone at all.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version adds a genuinely new capability — we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above before that version is published.
